Export to SCORM, Common Cartridge & Moodle .mbz Without Lock-In

Portability is one of those features every tool claims and few explain. So let's be specific about what EduGears AI Studio actually does when you bring a course in or take one out — including the part most vendors gloss over: what happens to your quizzes.

What you can import

Import a course package and Studio rebuilds it as a real, editable course — modules, lessons, pages, and questions you can refine and republish. The importer accepts:

Common Cartridge / IMSCC — the package Canvas and many other LMSs export.
Moodle backup (.mbz) — restore a Moodle course backup into an editable course.
SCORM 1.2 & 2004 (.zip) — bring a SCORM package's content and media into a new, editable course.

Supporting files inside a package — slide decks, reference documents — are routed to the AI knowledge base that grounds generation and powers the course tutor, rather than becoming standalone activities.

What you can export

Any course can be exported as a full package, and you can choose exactly which content to include (lesson plans, slides, study guides, worksheets, quizzes, pages). Three formats are available:

Moodle backup (.mbz)

The honest part: quizzes by format

Not every format preserves interactivity the same way. If gradable assessment matters, this table is the one to read:

In short: for fully gradable quizzes on the other side, export to Moodle .mbz. SCORM keeps score reporting. Common Cartridge is the most broadly compatible for content, but its quizzes come across as static review material rather than graded activities.

Which LMS each format targets

Common Cartridge is what Canvas produces and imports; Moodle .mbz is Moodle's own backup format; SCORM packages are LMS-agnostic and widely supported (including SCORM Cloud). Beyond those, any LMS that reads standard Common Cartridge or SCORM can consume an EduGears AI export.

Prefer not to ship a file at all? Publishing a course to an access code delivers it live into any LTI 1.3 LMS — Canvas, Moodle, and more — with grades wired to the gradebook. Export and publish are two doors out of the same room.

Why portability matters

The point of open export isn't that you'll leave — it's that you can. A course you can export to a standard package at any time is a course you own. Switching tools, archiving a program, or handing work to a partner becomes a single click instead of a support ticket.

Does importing a SCORM package keep its interactivity?

SCORM import brings in the package's content and media as an editable course. It ingests the material rather than preserving SCORM's original tracking and sequencing.

Can publishers export, or only import?

Both. All four export formats — Common Cartridge 1.3, SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, and Moodle .mbz — are available on any course you build.

Is my content ever locked to EduGears AI?

No. You can export a full standards package at any time and take it anywhere.
